If you told Lucien that one day he'll find himself in a completely different region and like a damsel in distress and beautiful lady would come sweep him up and shower him in praise before throwing him out to the wolves-- or in this case the hounds and have him join in a gang. He'd think you're crazy.

[break][break]From the moment the name Mateo left his lips he planned to leave out a different life than what others threw on him, there is no way in hell anyone would believe that the prince of Valos, Lucien Durendal, would become a gang member. And it was for that reason this all felt so right, Mateo would totally join Orthrus, but now it was really up to them if they would accept him.

It's a room in the back for Magnus to at least look the boy over. He doesn't know this Mateo, but Lani's quick introduction was, perhaps, a bit too quick. He didn't have time to set it all in. Just to add him in, like that. Orthrus would take most comers, sure, but the spontaneity was left to be desired.[break][break]

Lani is lucky she was one of his girls. She could really get away with anything.[break][break]

[break][break]It was a quick jab in, something that he mainly said on impulse, but on further thought it said more about his character that he didn't instantly see her that way. Even at his time as Lucien it wasn't like he was completely against viewing people as eye candy, it was just he couldn't allow himself too. Perhaps even as Mateo old happens just die hard.

[break][break]His eyes was on Magnus, just as he made himself comfortable, Mateo noticed he was sitting more on attention. It didn't seem to fit the vibes and in all honesty there was no reason to be so nervous, was this even a formal interview? As a smile grew on his face, he'd find himself leaning in for the handshake, even giving the back of his hand with a light and friendly pat with the other.

[break][break]"Recommendation from Lani is high praise. Why you want in?"

[break][break]Mateo only held his hand in his for as long as the big man wanted, and if Magnus's hand finally loosen to let him go, Mateo would drop into his seat with a carefree air to him. Both of his hands would swing up and rest behind his head, looking up at the corner of the room while he was scanning through a bunch of possible answers that could be acceptable.

[break][break]"If I could be 'onest with ya, Jack-- Or is Magnus better?"

[break][break]He practically cut himself off with that thought, turning his full attention to Magnus to study his reaction, but also give him the respect he needed. His hands idly brushed through his freshly cut hair, trying to get used to the feel of it before he'd drop his arms, throwing them into his pocket and then settling himself in his chair more by throwing his right ankle down on his knee.

[break][break]"Ah, As I was saying. I just thought it'd be dope. Long story, short I ended up here in Heonn without much to my name and this real bell of the ball showed up and really helped me out, but damn!"

[break][break]With that excitement, Mateo threw his hand out from his pocket, and with how he gestured his hand it was almost as if he was auctioneer showing off a piece towards Magnus.

They share a handshake, and when a moment passed, he'd drop it and watch Mateo. Not a lover of hot ass? Or maybe he was? He didn't know the guy well enough, but Lani did give the rec, so he was as good as in. But a little hazing was in order.[break][break]

As Luci here brushes a hand through his hair, Magnus watches him carefully. Very carefree indeed, and wanting to join because it was dope? Damn right. He wanted in because it was fun. Can't blame that shit, after all, it is.[break][break]

Lady Luck though? "Luck, maybe, but luck means little if you know who to talk to. Lani runs the joint, and me? I just love funding it." He did though. And if it was luck, well, yeah sure he was. But that was a way to look at it.[break][break]

[break][break]Maggie. In all honesty that name seemed to have completely absorb his thoughts for a solid moment or two. How was he supposed to respond to that? His mind was in a panic during these crucial moments, because how he really wanted to respond was to laugh, or call it cute and for some reason or another, that felt like the wrong answer here.

[break][break]If he had lasted any longer the grin on his face would have probably twitched from how hard he was trying to hold it in, however he was saved by another thought. It was when he was echoing Magnus's words in his head did he focus in--guy. Mateo hadn't introduced himself.

[break][break] "Luck, maybe, but luck means little if you know who to talk to. Lani runs the joint, and me? I just love funding it."

[break][break]A light cruse at himself as a hand would come up to hide his face in shame. This was supposed to step one of introductions and yet he fucked that up already. Then again where he came from it would be weird if people didn't know his name.

[break][break]He couldn't help but laugh, his hand staying at the back of his head as it would ruffle up his hair anxiously. Now came to actually responding to the next part, the man wasn't wrong on the first part and the second was just entirely new information to him. The Leader of Orthrus, the kings of the streets, not being the one that runs the joint? Or was he talking about the club?

[break][break]Silence wasn't Mateo's favourite thing, he was far too used to it back in Kalos and so while he thought he couldn't help but verbalize it, before his hand would drop again, this time resting in his lap.

[break][break]"I had no idea the dynamic was like that, but I think that's pretty amazing you go so far to support her dreams."

[break][break]Possible accusation aside, it doesn't really mattered to Mateo if he thought of him that way. He was simply drawn in by the papering and affection and then completely captured by the possible of excitement. This group would give him something he couldn't get back at home and that was more than enough to treat it seriously.

Magnus waits for the recovery, and as the boy in front of him tumbles, he makes the save, able to at the very least, laugh it all off. Good to see the social tuck-and-roll, and he waits and listens. Name was Mateo. He laughs, rubs his hair, and was amazed by Magnus' desire to embrace the gang's dreams.[break][break]

He was doing a great job buttering Magnus up at least.[break][break]

"I make sure every dream is given the TLC it needs. My number two likes bikes, I got him a bike. My mechanics love to play with them." It was simple as that. And it wasn't just them. Oz liked to fight, so they had a club. Leilani was a crafty woman, and Keira knew business, so they had a club. Or the workers who frequented it. Magnus saw them all as pups in a pack, and one he led.[break][break]

He scoffs, tilting his head to the side.[break][break]

"Mateo. What dreams you got yourself, pup? Just breathe, guy, we're all friends here. Pretty sure if I did you wrong, Lani would skin my dick like a banana."[break][break]

[break][break]Mateo didn't know where this segue was going however he did like this sort of conversations. Rarely did he ever get to hear about humans just supporting one another, instead he was far too used to the poisoned way they trampled and used each other. This was surely a breath of a fresh air and only showed him that he truly was heading in the right direction.

[break][break]"Bikes even? I never got to ride 'ne so that would be cool to check out at some point."

[break][break]It didn't go unnoticed when Magnus seemed to be a bit lost in his thoughts, though the silence of him didn't seem to rise any alarm bells for Mateo. That sense of ease continued even as Magnus seemed to be scoff like a troubled father, and continue with a turn of events even Mateo didn't expect.

[break][break]"Mateo. What dreams you got yourself, pup?..."

[break][break]Pup?

[break][break]While it wasn't a character he was purposefully putting, there would be a small moment where his goofy demeanor would crumble. Perhaps it was a sudden realization that he was treating him like he was already a part of his pack that threw Mateo off, a strange sense of bitterness and longing he knew he'd never be able to achieve back with his own family. It was a rare moment for him to not be able to hide his excitement in his rosey cheeks, but then again there wasn't any need to do that here.. was there?

[break][break]"...Pretty sure if I did you wrong, Lani would skin my dick like a banana."

[break][break]But that state didn't stay long when his last words knocked her out of his temporary funk.

[break][break]"Lani? No way! I have a hard time seein' that."

[break][break]Even though the morbid description was enough to make him shiver, he still couldn't help but laugh at the thought of Lani of all people doing that. A hand even coming up to fan away the very idea as he was laughing.

[break][break]"But dreams, huh? I'll be real with ya' I don't got one."

[break][break]The hand that was just waving earlier would come up to rest on his chin as he thought it over, a defeated laugh following through. How sad.

[break][break]"Well, it's nothing physical someone can just give me. I just want freedom, it's why I came to Heonn in the first place. That and adventure, thrill. You know, the cool fucking shit. I'll be real, it already feels like I scored big with ya'."
